Summary: Gboard for Android is now getting the long-awaited undo and redo shortcuts. You’ll need to have Gboard version 15.0 installed in order to use the new feature and also put the ‘Undo’ shortcut in the suggestions row before you get started. We’ve explained everything below, in case you don’t know what to do on your own.
Quite honestly, I never really wanted undo and redo buttons in Gboard. I never really found the need for them thanks to the quick delete gesture. A lot of people did, however, at least based on a ton of comments on Reddit over the last couple of years.
Gboard for Android is now getting undo and redo buttons
Well, good news, Google is now rolling out undo and redo shortcuts in Gboard for Android. The testing started in January, and now the feature is rolling out widely, to all Gboard users on Android. Yes, we’re talking about the stable version of the app.
First, make sure you’re on the latest version of Gboard. You’ll need Gboard version 15.0. Then, fire up Gboard (start typing), and go to the shortcuts menu. Scroll all the way down, and you’ll see the ‘Undo’ icon. You’ll need to drag it to the suggestions row up top.

Type up something, and tap that undo button from the suggestions row. Once you do, both undo and redo options will appear as suggestions, so you’ll be able to reverse the action you’ve just made.
Despite the fact I personally never requested this feature thanks to the quick delete button, I’ll likely use it from time to time. It’s a nice and fact way to recover a word you’ve recently deleted, for example.
Google has been trickling down new features to Gboard constantly. A new shortcuts button appeared in recent weeks, and the same goes for tweaks to Dynamic Color. The company also started rolling out the voice typing toolbar.
